MENKAL!!!!
As all good ideas come MENKAL.com came to me in one of my favourite places…..sat on the loo. I am a T-Shirt addict to be honest and have to buy them quite often or I get withdrawals. As an avid T Shirt lover I have many ideas as to what T Shirts I love and what T Shirts I want to buy.
Menkal is a word nicked from the SHAMELESS character Frank Gallagher his accent version on "MENTAL" and calling his various wives and girlfriends all the time. Also "MENKAL" is a word that appeals to my sons crowd of BMXers and skateboarders doing "MENKAL" tricks--- I love the name!!!!
I came off the loo and went to speak to my girlfriend Ali (and granted at this stage both myself and my gorgeous girlfriend Ali had partaken in 1 or 7 Irish Whiskeys) about my ideas....she loved it (and the name)and amazingly we both still loved the idea the next morning, albeit whilst suffering from a slight muggy head.
Ali has previous experience in fashion design and attended college to study fashion. She is a very artistic person and considers herself to be quite an individual. She was as eager as me, from the start and if anything more enthusiastic than me to get going. In fact when I got home from work the next day she had completed our first T shirt design!
We have done well through ebay before selling everything from BMX parts to Vintage Clothes (I had a previous addiction to Hawaiian Shirts!!) and we have enjoyed the retail side and love of the auction. The main thing is we both feel we can “create” better and more individual T shirt designs than some of those available now.
Individual is deffo what we want to go for. Hand painted most of the time with little use of stencils. Original designs on T shirts, bags, hats and anything else we care to decorate. Ali has ideas coming out all the time, for new designs!!
